Apple iPod Touch 32 GB (2nd Generation)

The iPod Touch is basically the same as the i Phone but without the phone and camera function. It means you can use all the i Phone functionality without the expensive monthly phone connection bills. It has always been an amazing up MP3 player, more like a PDA than an MP3 player really.

The 1st generation  iPod Touch had a couple of deficiencies that have been remedied in the 2nd generation iPod Touch.  Strangely it lacked a volume button-the newer Touch has one. It also lacked a speaker,camera and Bluetooth  although it did have WiFi connection to the Internet. There was less storage  capacity in the older model too. Now you can get 32 GB although the 8GB and 16 GB are also available.

Music

The 32 GB ipod Touch will hold a music library larger than most people own. Even the 16 GB will hold plenty for for most of us. With the cover flow technology and the touch screen you will be able to flip through your music collection just as if it was a pile fo physical records.  When you turn the  iPod touch on its side you see the “covers” or rather the cover artwork and can find the album you want to listen to.  Tap the cover to flip it over and display a track list. Tap again to start the music. Even view the lyrics while you’re listening.

Genius Playlists

Genius is now a feature of several other iPods including the iPod Classic and the iPod Nano. This  feature allows you to create a playlist from any song you are listening to. Genius will find similar types of song in your  library and turn them into a playlist for you. If you have a large library of songs this is a cool feature for creating playlists on the fly.

Voice Recording

Apple has made it possible to record voice memos although you’ll need to purchase a compatible headset to use this feature.

Fun & Games

The iPod Touch is the bes tplayer for games.  Many applications have been developed just to work with the iPod Touch. You can get lots of excellent ones via the Itunes Store.  Many games come alive with stunning 3D graphics using the advanced technologies in iPod touch.  Now that the iPod Touch includes a built-in speaker you can hear all the action.  Tilt and turn the player  to control the game action. It’s perfect for racing games where your entire iPod touch acts as a steering wheel and for tap-and-tilt games like Super Monkey Ball, in which your character rolls to your movements.

If games aren’t your thing there are thousands of other applications that you can enjoy. The iPod Touch is the only mp3 player that can take advantage of the huge numbe of applications in  Apple’s mobile application platform. These are all available via iTunes. This is a huge plus for for this player versus other brands.

Photos

Show thousands of photos singly or as a slide show with music and transition effect. Tap to view full-screen and rotate for landscape view. You can even zoom in or out by pinching!.  It makes it so easy to email a photo to a friend, set it as your wallpaper, or share it in a MobileMe Gallery. If someone send you a photo you can easily add it to your own photo gallery

Sync to Your PC

Keep appointments and contacts up to date  in Outlook and  automatically sync to Microsoft Outlook on a PC or iCal on a Mac.

WiFi Connection

You can purchase a WiFi  connection with 20GB of combined email and file storage plus 200GB of monthly data transfer for around  $100 (or from Amazon.com for $79)

Downsides for Anyone Upgrading  to Apple iPod Touch

There are a couple of unexpected disappointments in the Touch in that it doesn’t work with hardware that works with all other iPods. Surprisingly these include Logitech AudioStation Express and the Apple iPod HiFi speaker that Apple sold in its own store for use with iPods. There are also several car docks and chargers that no longer work with the new Touch although they did work with the original touch! This will be frustrating for owners of previous models who have invested in these.
